Normally, I post the warm and fuzzy inspirational stuff, but life is not always like that. So, this week I want to share a different lesson…if you are focused on the WRONG things in life, reality will come to bite you in the ass. Check it out:

Special Post for a Woman Shaping Her Destiny…
We all go through changes in life…
We see friends come, friends go…we go through ups and we go through downs…we cry…we laugh…we have crazy moments…we experience it all!
As crazy at it gets, some people can take a leap of faith so great, that you can’t help but appreciate and look up in amazement. I met a special gal about 12 years ago while in college. From the beginning, she had an outgoing spirit and one hell of a side eye (lol)! We had moments of distance, where months would go by with no contact, but then that one girl’s night out, every once in a while, brought us back together. As we get older, I’ve grown to appreciate her honesty and her support. When I think about it and look back at old pics, I realize that she has really been there for a lot. My lovely and dear friend, Jelonda, will be embarking on a journey that will be life changing.
She has decided to move to Thailand for six months, working on her inner and outer self, taking life as it comes. Who knows where this leap of faith will lead her, but one thing is for sure, I have an immeasurable amount of respect for her.
To my girl:
Know that we are all watching you and praying for your safe travels. We love you and want nothing but the best for this new path that you are walking down. You are an inspiration to everyone around you and even those watching from afar. Continue to follow your heart and your dreams…I am SO SO proud of you and I know that God will be guiding your every move, so behave and live it up as if no one is watching lol. Here are some snapshots of great times, so whenever you get homesick just take a peak at the memories!
Kevin Hart Donates $250,000 to Philadelphia Public Schools
Growing up in Philly, I know first-hand how it’s hard to make it out without being jaded. I was fortunate enough to go to some of the best schools in the area, but that came with major sacrifices from my parents. I wish that other kids had the opportunities that I had because maybe they would have a better chance to move up and be great…and that’s just me…imagine what it’s like for someone like Kevin Hart who was raised up in the Philadelphia public school system and has to watch the city he loves, climb out of a crisis.
He recently chipped in to do his part in helping the city purchase 500 computers for students. It’s no secret that the school district is in a heap of debt and the main people suffering are the kids. This past year, 24 public schools were closed and students were shifted around and taken out of their element. In a recent interview on Philly’s Hot 107.9, Hart declared, “I bleed Philadelphia!” If you’re from the City of Brotherly Love, you would know what it’s like “bleed” it…it’s in the culture, the food, the city-life…everything. He also stated:
I felt like the city was in a time of need. I feel like it’s good to step up and show kids that regardless of where I’m at in my life now, I once sat in the same seat they sit in…this is definitely a start of something big for me. I’m jumping into this philanthropy world and for me, this is where I wanted it to start.
He goes on to say:
Then by accident I found my lane, helping my city. That’s my lane. Trying to put my city on my back, uplift it and showing these kids that I give a damn. By showing them that I give a damn, hopefully, it’ll keep them interested to stay in school and make it out like I did.
KUDOS to you, Kevin Hart! We need more people like you who can turn back around to help out the city that made them…Philly needs it!
Did You Watch VH1’s TLC Movie?
If you were like me last night, then you tuned in to the much anticipated TLC Movie that aired on VH1. Let me dive right in! I LOVED IT! Of course, there were cheesy, sub-par acting moments, but overall it was a success and mainly because of the awesome casting choices. Surprisingly, Lil’ Mama was the best look-alike in her role as Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes and Keke Palmer as Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas was a close second, with Drew Sidora as Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins coming in third.
Growing up on the female power group, TLC, I had chills for the majority of the movie while I sang along to classics such as, “What About Your Friends” and “Creep.” There are no words that can truly describe how influential they were, not only in the Pop industry, but to young girls everywhere. They educated a whole generation about safe sex and being confident, while sexy. The toughest part was watching everything that they went through behind the scenes and knowing their reactions to tragedies that stuck them. After watching an entire movie of actresses portraying one of my favorite female groups, it brought tears to my eyes to see clips of the actual trio at the end. Kudos to VH1 for shedding light on what I believe is the real depiction of what happened during their rise to fame. To throw you back, here is the actual What About Your Friends video, as well as the trailer for VH1’s TLC movie.
Simone Biles is the First Black Woman to Win the All-Around World Championship Gymnastics Title!
Imagine being a young, female gymnast competing on the United States’ Gymnastics team. That, in itself, is an amazing achievement. Now, imagine traveling with your team to compete in the World Championships in Belgium where you WIN the all-around title; a rare and prestigious honor! All that training and time invested begins to pay off in a major way. So, you’ve gotten this far and not only do you win, but you are the FIRST black, female gymnast to achieve this victory. Who could take that away from you? Who could step in and steal some of that spotlight that you have so graciously earned? To even have to think that ANYONE could ruin such a proud moment for not just the black community, but for gymnasts all over, is a hard concept to grasp.
Young gymnast Simone Biles achieved exactly what was described above and without any hesitation, that moment of ultimate success was ripped from her when a racial slur was thrown her way. Following the victory, a member of the Italian team, Carlotta Ferlito, said in an interview (according to Yahoo! Sports), “I told (teammate Vanessa Ferrari) that next time we should also paint our skin black so that we can win, too.” Can you believe that?! Not only is it disgusting, but once again, it is the constant reminder that skin is still being looked at all around the world and racism is still very much alive!
Of course, the US had Simone’s back and said:
The United States is proud of its athletes and the success the achieved at our recent World Championships, especially Simone…USA Gymnastics is disappointed by the recent comments made by Carlotta Ferlito…Gymnastics is a global and inclusive sport with talented athletes, and there is no place for racial insensitivity.
Congrats, Simone! Keep your head up and continue to shine…this is just the beginning and the more successful you are, the more you will learn some of life’s toughest lessons. But, don’t let that stop you from being simply great!
