Do Ratchet Shows Give the Black Community a Bad Rep?

I’ve always wondered what keeps me glued to the television when shows like Love & Hip Hop come on.  To be honest, the fights make me cringe, the bullying makes my blood boil, the men who dog the ladies out make me roll my eyes…all in all, my blood pressure shoots up.  So, whyyyy do I put myself through it? I’ve figured it out and it’s for a couple of reasons.  The first reason being, it’s comforting to see how I DON’T want to live.  Did that make sense?  Let me break it down a little bit.  When I see the women fighting, I know I don’t want that to be me.  When I see the women dealing with these men who are no good, I see what I want to avoid.  When I see these grown folks unable to speak articulately, it makes me read a book (lol).  The other reason, is simple…it’s entertaining.  Maybe that makes me a hypocrite because the very reasons that make me hate the show, are the same reasons that also keep me watching.

One thing I know for sure, reality television should not be a representation of an entire community!  I see the same ratchet behavior when I watch The Real Housewives of Orange County and Beverly Hills.  There are lessons to be learned by some of the stuff we see, but overall…it’s just TV!

Don’t call it a comeback (like, seriously…don’t).  I love Cassie’s style, she’s obviously gorgeous, but I’m not 100% sold on this track.  I like it, but I don’t love it yet.  Let me know what you think!

*Video* Love & Hip-Hop’s Tahiry Jose: “Devil” ft. Styles P and Uncle Murda! [The Reasons Why I Hate It]

I NEVER rip people on my site because this is a place to spread good news, great stories of success, interviews, music and more.  However, I think it’s a disgrace when people try and “drop” some music or a video just because they’ve reached reality television fame.  This industry has taken a turn for the worse and the artists who are TRULY talented and take their craft seriously, should be offended that videos like “Devil” even make it into production.

Tahiry is so beautiful, but let’s face it…music is not her strong point.  The video is horrible, her voice sounds bad and her body is bangin’, but the clothes were very unflattering.  Her management team SHOULD have done a better job with making sure the song was mixed better and coming up with a better video, PERIOD.  I see artists on my site, in my email, on Twitter, etc. wanting me to feature their music, wanting me to spread the word and they are SO talented, yet they never get that big shot to make it in the music world.  I feature as many up-and-coming artists as I can, without flooding my site with just music, but Tahiry may have just sparked a long stream of new/undiscovered artists on my site, just so I feel better about putting this whack video on here.

I hate to be so blunt, because I believe everyone should follow their dreams, but I will call a fraud when I see one.  I come in contact with too many gifted musicians to let this slide.  Check it out for yourself:

Monday’s Lesson: When Your “Success” Turns You Into An A$$hole!

Yup! I said it!  Ever watch someone on television as a regular reality “star” and then see them after a few episodes air and they’re stunting?  They start brushing “fans” off or turning down interviews or begin wearing things that they still probably can’t afford…overall, they THINK they are bigger than what they actually are!  Let’s be real, in about ten years, you’re not going to even be recognized.  Maybe it’s not just people on television…ever see people on your Facebook feed or Twitter timeline who are always “on” for the cameras?!  They just HAVE to let every…single…person…know…every…freaking…step or brag about every single thing that they own.

My Monday lesson goes out to all of you who I described above.  Learn to humble yourselves, understand that whatever success you have achieved, is a blessing and can be taken away in a split second.  People appreciate genuine individuals that they can relate to, not because of social status, but because of the wisdom and thoughtfulness and originality that you may bring to the table.

It’s official!  Janet Jackson has finally confirmed that she and her super duper rich hubby, Wissam Al Mana, wed last year.  She reminds all of us that are on the grind, living out our dreams and fighting our way to the top, that you CAN have it all.  You can have the fame and the fairytale.  Congratulations to the beautiful couple and it’s nice to see something positive in the media about the Jackson family for once.

The two provided a statement to ET News stating, “The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true.  Last year we were married in a quiet, private and beautiful ceremony…We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy.”

Female Group, TLC, Biopic Cast is Set!

We’ve jammed to their hits, we’ve mimicked their styles and in some way, shape, or form became fans of the power house, all-female group, TLC.  It’s no secret that their story was a roller-coaster ride with their financial troubles being public knowledge and with the untimely death of group member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.  The remaining members, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, have agreed to a biopic which will feature an interesting cast!

Chilli, Left Eye and T-Boz will be played by Keke Palmer, Lil’ Mama, and Drew Sidora (respectively).  Some heat is already being thrown towards Keke Palmer for not “looking like” Chilli, but she’s firing back at her critics.  Here’s what she had to say on Twitter, in response to the flack she’s been getting:

I’m sure the biopic will be a success and I look forward to seeing it!  Plus, Ms. Palmer is correct, I’d rather see a movie with good actresses, as opposed to actresses that simply look like who they are portraying.

Rihanna Dishes on Her Rekindled Love…Can This Hurt Her Brand?

In the latest edition of Rolling Stone magazine, where Rihanna graces the cover, she speaks openly about her rekindled love with singer, Chris Brown.  Sure, everyone talks about it and some even support their decision to find love in a hopeless place (get it?), but dare I ask the question: Would you go back to an abuser?  It may sound harsh or you may not even care, but I’m really curious.  Would you willingly go back to someone who beat you to a pulp?  Furthermore, would you risk your brand, your endorsement deals, you image, etc. all in the name of love?  Does love really conquer all?  Check out what she had to say in her interview: Click Here for Interview
