Female Group, TLC, Biopic Cast is Set!

We’ve jammed to their hits, we’ve mimicked their styles and in some way, shape, or form became fans of the power house, all-female group, TLC.  It’s no secret that their story was a roller-coaster ride with their financial troubles being public knowledge and with the untimely death of group member, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.  The remaining members, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, have agreed to a biopic which will feature an interesting cast!

Chilli, Left Eye and T-Boz will be played by Keke Palmer, Lil’ Mama, and Drew Sidora (respectively).  Some heat is already being thrown towards Keke Palmer for not “looking like” Chilli, but she’s firing back at her critics.  Here’s what she had to say on Twitter, in response to the flack she’s been getting:

I’m sure the biopic will be a success and I look forward to seeing it!  Plus, Ms. Palmer is correct, I’d rather see a movie with good actresses, as opposed to actresses that simply look like who they are portraying.

Brandy ft. Chris Brown “Put it Down” VIDEO PREMIER!

Brandy drops her new video for hit song, Put it Down, featuring Chris Brown.  It’s nice to finally see her back in the spotlight, doing what she does best.  I’ve always been a Brandy fan and it seems as if she’s got her mojo back!  Check out her new video below!

Naps, Kinks & Curls…Who Cares?!

So, in honor of the newest (ignorant) craze about our newest All-Around Gold Medalist, I’ve decided to address what seems to be a major issue within certain circles.  Let’s jump right into it!  Who the frap cares about hair THAT much to directly lash out against a 16 year old who made HISTORY?  It completely disgusts me to even think that people can, not only be so cruel, but they can be so superficial and disrespectful.

There seems to be a movement toward individuals going natural and less use of relaxers or other chemicals that could theoretically make them more “socially acceptable”.  Doesn’t that mean everyone can have different hair and do it as they please?  So, I dare ask the questions:  What does hair really represent?  Does it make you more acceptable to not rock the curls and/or naturalness?  Is there REALLY a need to be so hung up on titles of hair types?  I understand that this may be a sensitive subject for folks, but dang…image is not always everything when it’s at the expense of your sanity (or someone else’s).

NAPS: Now, this is a BIG thing for me to even be discussing.  I used to be the “ignorant” one who had no clue that “nappy” had a racial connotation (I still don’t and I still say it), BUT although I still say “nappy” I’m more aware of who I am saying it to for the sake of not hurting someone’s feelings (ugh).  For me, someone who is white, black, purple or green can have “nappy hair”…if you don’t do your hair, then hey, that’s what the heck it looks like!

TYPES: I just learned within the last couple of years that there were different hair types defined within a numbering system (3a, 4b, 4c, etc.).  I always used to just refer to types as, “curly” or “straight” or “tight curls” or “wavy” or “coarse”…you get the point.  I was educated on what hair type I have on Curly Nikki.  Honestly, I could care less…I just love my curls, who cares if you don’t.

GO OFF MOMENT: The point is, NOT everyone cares enough about hair to make a big stink about how others rock theirs!  Now, people can be a part of secret societies, forums or groups that only talk about hair, that is fine.  But, when there are certain individuals who take it a step further and ASSume that hair should DEFINE a person, that is when I get all out of sorts.  Here is this beautiful girl (not just a black girl, but a PRETTY GIRL) who worked her butt off to be able to compete on the United States Olympic Gymnastics team and the main thing that her “fellow people” choose to focus on is her hair?  Check out some of the HORRIBLE tweets that were put out about Gabby as she was still competing for her gold medals:

Why hasn’t anyone tried to fix Gabby Douglas’ hair?

Gabby Douglas gotta do something with this hair! These clips and this brown gel residue aint it.

Can Dominique Dawes fly to London to comb Gabby Douglass’ hair ???!!!!?!?!

I wanna do Gabby Douglas hair so bad. She makes me so sad.

Sometimes I wish there were a special device to rid the world of people who make comments like this (especially when they haven’t even mastered the English language)!  While they were busy tweeting and doing nothing short of being upset and jealous that their life is probably MISERABLE in comparison to Gabby’s, this young talent was wow-ing the rest of the world by being the FIRST African American female to win the gymnastics All-Around gold medal.  I’m here to say, “CONGRATS GABBY!”  Don’t let the world taint your view and don’t even think for one second that your hair defines you!  YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

WHEEEW! Glad I got that off my chest!  In honor of this inspiring young lady, enjoy the pics you freaking haters!

Saved the best for last for the haters!  BOOM!  When was the last time you were endorsed by a major brand?

What Can “Love & Hip Hop ATL” Teach YOU?!?!

The answer is simple…not a DAMN thing! Ok, ok, that was harsh, but seriously…this show CAN’T be real!  Of course, that’s because it’s NOT, but it does highlight some interesting things.  Check out what you can take away from this ratchet display of poor acting and fake plots:

1.  Don’t have babies unless you’re married or else you’ll end up like Mimi, chasing off a Spanish poodle who raps.

2.  If you’re going to pounce someone on the first date, don’t do it on national television like K. Michelle.

3.  Don’t trust anyone named Stevie J.

4.  If you date Benzino for a week, he will give you a key to his house and get you a huge meeting with one of the biggest label executives.

5.  Don’t hire your husband as your manager…if you do, you’re going to have to suffer through firing him!

6. If you date a rapper, he will leave you for his best friend and take his couches back when he moves out.

Sorry for the temporary insanity in posting about this crap…trust that my next post will be uplifting and inspirational!  We all need a little jokey-joke time in our lives (lol)!

B.B.M…What the HECK Should I Blog About?!

Welcome back for another week of, “BECOME A BLOGGER MONDAYS”!!!

By now you’ve decided that blogging is for you and you have chosen which site is best for you as well.  Ok, so now comes the FUN part!  You get to write about ANYthing!  When I first started writing I didn’t know exactly what I’d be sharing with the world, but I knew the message I wanted to get across.  Here are some helpful tips on HOW to decide what to write about:

1. Know the reason WHY you want to blog.

For me, the reason was simple…I wanted to inspire others.  Just tap into what motivates you and that’s the first step to your success.

2.  Figure out what you want your end result to be.

Some people blog for their business, others want to make money on the side and some just do it for the fun of it all.  So, whether you want to use your “stage” as a means to an end or to simply document an online journal, you must decipher what you ultimately want to see happen with your blog.  Knowing this will allow you to further hone in on what you want to focus on.

3.  Make it FUN!

When I say this, it’s more for you, rather than your readers.  Of course, you want to captivate your audience, but if you don’t enjoy what you’re writing about then no one will.

4. Be diverse in your topics.

Starting out, you’re going to want to be consistent in your topics; this will help form your target audience.  BUT! BUT! BUT! Every once in a while, it will be nice for your readers to see a different side of you, i.e. if you’re serious then make it funny, if you’re funny then maybe write about a more serious/personal topic.  Diversity will help expand past your target audience!  One thing that I do often is reach out to my readers.  I ask them what they want to read about, I ask them their thoughts on my topics of discussion and most importantly, I open myself up for constructive criticism.

Whatever you choose to share with the world, is all up to you!  Remain true to what you know and the rest will fall into place.  Happy BLOGGING everyone!  Make sure to come back next Monday when I discuss, “Grammar is YOUR Friend!!!”

B.B.M. (Become a Blogger Mondays) Which Site is Right for You?!

Welcome back to B.B.M.!  Last week I discussed how to decide if blogging was right for you and seeing as though you’ve come back for a second week, that means you’re ready to begin your blogging journey (which makes me so happy).  So, let’s jump right in and get down to business!

Of course the next big step is to find a site to call home.  Now, if you are anything like I was, you will have no clue how to make this decision.  Here are the steps that I took in finding a site that was just right for me:

1. I opened my mouth to ask questions.

Sometimes it can be intimidating to ask the most basic questions, but you will find that it is often the best option.  Ask around and see what other bloggers are doing.  You may even find it helpful to ask people with a tech background (which is what I did) to see which sites are user-friendly and offer the best features.

2. Google became my friend!

Pretty much anything that you need to research can be found online…information is right at your fingertips.  Any and everything that I could think of, I researched, i.e. types of blogs, did I like blogs with or without a lot of pictures?, did I skip over sites with a lot of writing?, colors, etc.  By looking at what others are doing, you can really begin to shape ideas for your site, which means you can target one that is right for you.

3. I was honest about my likes and dislikes.

While you continue your research, pay attention to what catches your eye (and not just the obvious details).  It may make sense to ask a friend if you can take a “tour” of their site to see how it works “behind the scenes”.  There are certain features that I like about my site, that I didn’t find elsewhere.  For example, I love that WordPress is really “professional” and up-to-date.  They take the time to help new users and they constantly update layout themes, add-ons, widgets, etc. for the regulars who want something new.  If I have any questions, I can always ask a WordPress staff member and I can also search through forums for answers to ALL of my questions.  Of course, other sites offer things that I don’t get with WordPress, but when I weigh the pros and cons, I know I’ve chosen wisely.  So, before you go signing up, make sure you are critical of your options!

4. Just make a choice…I did!

If after all of this, you still aren’t sure which site is best for you, then just pick ONE!  What’s the worse that can happen? You don’t like it?  TIP: When I first signed up with WordPress, I didn’t make my site live right away.  I played around with different layout themes and I practiced writing new posts.  I learned how to do the simple things like loading an image or creating tags (something you’ll learn more about).  Have fun with the decision-making process!

I hope you’ve found this helpful and be sure to come back next Monday when I discuss: What the Heck Should I Blog About?

JoJo is All Grown Up Now!

Remember the teeny bopper who was yelling for us to “get out, right now!”?  Well, she’s grown up and is singing a mighty different tune.  Almost 22, she has a brand new single, Demonstrate, and it’s nothing short of sexy and very blunt.  With a new style and image, this may be the comeback hit she’s been needing!
