Why Don’t I Blog About Gossip More Often?

danithedreamgirl

I could easily find stories that appeal to the average reader and highlight the juicy stuff like Dwayne Wade being a father to a newborn while he just got engaged to Gabriel Union.  I could focus on Chris Brown’s visit to rehab after finding himself in legal trouble once again.  I could even document the day-to-day antics of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.  It’s hard not to fall into the trap of blogging about gossip that would bring me thousands of site visits every day; it’s REALLY hard.  But, when I first created danithedreamgirl.com I knew that I had a vision and a purpose of what I wanted my brand to represent.  I wanted to encourage and inspire others to do better, to think about their life and its direction and to follow their dreams.

I sprinkle some gossip in my posts every once in a while, when the story has an alternative or deeper meaning.  But, in reality the gossip market is saturated with meaningless tid bits.  Instead, I wanted people to be able to read something with a purpose.  I’m still a growing site and it’s hard to take a more positive approach to blogging, but I get small reminders everyday that I’m on the right track.  Most of my close friends know that my inspiration for taking the plunge into building my site was and is Necole Bitchie.  Her story is amazing and in many ways, I find myself relating to her on many levels.  She has no clue who I even am, but if she ever reads this I hope she knows that her story is what helped me find the courage to share my voice with all of you.

I’m at a really difficult place in my life at the moment.  I find myself going through personal struggles that often times seem hard to tackle.  I lost my job and am hustling to pay my bills by working long hours and using every bit of energy I have.  Who knows what’s next for me, but for the first time in years I can say that I am starting over.  From the bare minimum.  It’s a scary place to be, but I say all of this to remind my readers that THIS is why I started my site.  Making danithedreamgirl.com a big enough site to generate a decent amount of revenue, becoming an industry leading blogger and inspiring people along the way are my goals.  I’m just now in a place to take a serious shot at giving it my all.

Let the story begin…

What Was My 2013 Like? Hard As Hell!

blog post

I will say this…the past year was really HARD! I went through some serious changes and adversities to say the least.  The silver lining in all of this is that everything that I’ve faced has made me an even stronger person and I now know that I’m built for battle.  Here’s a breakdown:

Family:

I’ve gotten closer to my family and have looked to them to really help me through the tough times.  I realize that when the world has turned its back on you, they are the people who will be around to help pick up the pieces.

Love and Relationships:

I walked away from someone who I thought was the love of my life.  I’ve tried dating, but I have come to the conclusion that I need to make myself whole before I can open my heart up to anyone and it feels good to really get MY life together and focus on what makes THIS girl happy!

Work:

Lost my job and am starting over!  I am starting from a clean slate and am actually tackling the things that I’ve been “dreaming” about…exciting stuff.

Friends:

This one is probably the hardest one to touch upon because simply put, I lost my best friend.  I learned that the people who are closest to you can turn on you.  When you apply heat to anything, you get to see what the foundation consists of and the reality is, anyone who is willing to walk away from me really doesn’t deserve to be in my life.  I refuse to have seasonal friends so all I can say is, keep walking your ass in the other direction because I don’t believe in forcing anyone to ever be in your life.

Overall:

I learned a lot in 2013, but I am really glad it is over.  The chapters have ended and my new book of life is just beginning!

Happy New Year!

[Video] “Yonce” is a 2 Minute Tease!

Fine, I will do my part as an impartial blogger *clears throat* and give the lady some credit.  Beyoncé sure knows how to surprise her fans, but as she evolves in this game, so does her sexual radiance.  Many people got on Rihanna’s case for being too sexually charged, but it seems like our Houston diva, Bey, isn’t too far behind.  I must say, I’m kind of loving this alter ego, cat-woman-like fierceness from our girl.  Check out her two-minute Yonce teaser!

Yes, Beyoncé Did It Again!

Just when we thought it couldn’t happen again, the possibilities within the music industry were redefined as Beyoncé released her new self-titled album at midnight.  Each song is accompanied by a video with features from Jay-Z, Drake and Frank Ocean (to name a few).  Ohhhh she’s a little sneaky one, but I always welcome the rush of originality so I can’t knock it.  Be sure to purchase her new album on iTunes or get a taste on her official website.

Drake Surprises Strawberry Mansion Students in Philadelphia!

Source: ABC News

Source: ABC News

As some of my readers know, I grew up in Philly and know just how rough it can be, especially for the youth.  National news has reported about the Philadelphia School District and its struggling financial status.  Kevin Hart recently donated $250,000 to buy new computers for students and now Drake has jumped on board.  What has once felt like a forgotten city, is now the recipient of some huge donations; people actually do care.  ABC News did a report (click here) on a well-known Philadelphia school, Strawberry Mansion, and it inspired rap star, Drake.  Diane Sawyer highlighted the grim financial state of the school that can barely afford school uniforms, but is trying to be known for something more than its violence.

Drake saw the report and said, “I was so heavily effected that I started questioning major aspects of my life.”  He surprised Strawberry Mansion students and faculty with the announcement that he is building a recording studio.  Knowing how some of the city’s schools struggle, it means a lot to see such big names in the industry taking notice.  Not many celebrities look students in their eyes and say, “This is about you, this is about your school, this is about your principal!”  Take a look at how Drake surprises students:

*Video* Your Future is a Thought of the Now!

My brother sent me this video and I would be selfish if I didn’t share it with my readers.  The reality is, we all worry about things that, in the grand scheme of things, won’t matter down the line.  So much of our focus is spent on not living in the moment; a hard ability to master.  Check out this great video and leave your thoughts!
