Michael B. Jordan is by far one of the best young, black actors in Hollywood.  He is best known for his breakout role in the hit series, The Wire.  He most recently stole hearts in the gripping film, Fruitvale Station where he depicted Oscar Grant; a young black man who was wrongfully shot and killed by transit police in the Bay Area.  GQ has honored Michael as Breakout Man of the Year; a very well-deserved honor.

The GQ article describes his iconic work and the pain felt around the world when his character was killed off in The Wire.  It states:

Now, again, a few earnest souls in our film industry are taking steps from the beaten path to present the human-scale cost of our racial pathology. And the right actor is again required to take a bullet in such a way that we will feel the loss in all of its intricate detail.

No surprise who gets the call. Now Michael B. Jordan, an actor honed by a decade of meaningful work, turns in a performance that surrounds the doomed Oscar Grant, making him seem idiosyncratic yet average, ordinary yet precious. That’s the power of Fruitvale.

Solange Knowles Proves She Can Find Success On Her Own

Source: Instagram

It must be tiring for Solange to constantly be compared to her powerhouse sister Beyoncé.  For years, Solange has been proving critics wrong by remaining on her own path and creating her very own brand that stands out.  I’ve always respected her ability to not only handle the criticism gracefully, but to also create artistic masterpieces through music and fashion.  Solange’s latest achievement is being named an Art Director and Creative Consultant for mega footwear brand Puma.  She has proven that originality and individuality will get you far!  Check out how she feels about her new role by reading her recent Facebook post:

After years of art directing my own projects and visuals, including music videos, photo shoots, album artwork and web content among many others, I am extremely excited to announce that I am now able to apply my passion for all things design into my new roll as an Art Director for the iconic PUMA!!!

It is in my new role that I am able to express my love for not only design but the conception of creative ideas, and the execution of them by curating amazingly talented teams. I’ve had so much fun producing special content, ad campaigns, events, and working alongside the awesome Puma team with some of my favorite emerging artists, photographers, graphic designers to create activations that really celebrates both mine and PUMA’s approach and philosophies.

Over the summer, I paired four incredible designers (GERLAN, WILLIAM OKPO, HISHAM BAROOCHA) to interpret a personal favorite of mine, the classic Puma Disc. Each designer incorporated and infused it with their own distinctive aesthetic to present our collection, “GIRLS OF BLAZE”, inspired by the sights and sounds of Brazil. I couldn’t be more excited about the results. The shit is wild, and come February I hope you will be just as in love as I am. This has been a dream job, and the ride has just begun!

This just so happens to be my favorite track off of the Yeezus album!  Kanye West paid a visit to the Ellen Show and premiered his new video for Bound 2.  The  video…well, I will let you all judge for yourself, but it features Kim Kardashian who appears to be topless for the entire thing.  Check it out!

*Video* Rihanna “What Now”

Rihanna

Rihanna certainly stretches the boundaries in her latest video, What Now.  As she grows musically and artistically, her work is becoming more abstract, which I think is actually nice to see.  It’s certainly a fresh of breath air and a break from one dimensional videos that are making the cut these days.  Kudos to Rihanna!  Check out the video and enjoy!

The Best Man Holiday…Here’s What I Think!

best man holiday

Straight and to the point…go see it!  It is so refreshing to see a great black film with good actors and a strong storyline.  There were some surprises that I don’t want to give away, but know that all of your emotions will be tugged at.  Also, Morris Chestnut…YAASSSS HONEY!  He did an amazing job and looked as though he was in the best shape of his life (ladies, trust me…you don’t want to miss it)!  His roles are usually static with no real emotion, but he did some of his best work in The Best Man Holiday.

Normally, a sequel doesn’t hold up as well as the first, but in this case it is just as good, if not better.  Please go support the film and also if you’ve already seen it, let us know what you think!

Pebbles Breaks Her Silence In An Exclusive Interview With Wendy Williams!

While I share dreams and journeys of people who are working hard on their passions, there is also an adverse side that can often times be ugly.  The entertainment industry is full of scandal, lies and simply hard roads and this is a reality that anyone wishing to become apart of it, must realize.

Since TLC aired their “true story” on VH1, a storm has come about and the world was able to witness the ugly side of the business.  While viewers and TLC fans have been slamming Pebbles with hateful slurs and accusations, she is fighting back to protect her image.  Of course, there are two sides to every story and Pebbles will be sharing her side in an upcoming book.  She sat down for an exclusive interview with Wendy Williams to set the record straight.  Check it out and let us know your thoughts:

Kevin Hart Donates $250,000 to Philadelphia Public Schools

Growing up in Philly, I know first-hand how it’s hard to make it out without being jaded.  I was fortunate enough to go to some of the best schools in the area, but that came with major sacrifices from my parents.  I wish that other kids had the opportunities that I had because maybe they would have a better chance to move up and be great…and that’s just me…imagine what it’s like for someone like Kevin Hart who was raised up in the Philadelphia public school system and has to watch the city he loves, climb out of a crisis.

He recently chipped in to do his part in helping the city purchase 500 computers for students.  It’s no secret that the school district is in a heap of debt and the main people suffering are the kids.  This past year, 24 public schools were closed and students were shifted around and taken out of their element.  In a recent interview on Philly’s Hot 107.9, Hart declared, “I bleed Philadelphia!”  If you’re from the City of Brotherly Love, you would know what it’s like “bleed” it…it’s in the culture, the food, the city-life…everything.  He also stated:

I felt like the city was in a time of need.  I feel like it’s good to step up and show kids that regardless of where I’m at in my life now, I once sat in the same seat they sit in…this is definitely a start of something big for me.  I’m jumping into this philanthropy world and for me, this is where I wanted it to start.

He goes on to say:

Then by accident I found my lane, helping my city.  That’s my lane.  Trying to put my city on my back, uplift it and showing these kids that I give a damn.  By showing them that I give a damn, hopefully, it’ll keep them interested to stay in school and make it out like I did.

KUDOS to you, Kevin Hart!  We need more people like you who can turn back around to help out the city that made them…Philly needs it!
