What Was My 2013 Like? Hard As Hell!

blog post

I will say this…the past year was really HARD! I went through some serious changes and adversities to say the least.  The silver lining in all of this is that everything that I’ve faced has made me an even stronger person and I now know that I’m built for battle.  Here’s a breakdown:

Family:

I’ve gotten closer to my family and have looked to them to really help me through the tough times.  I realize that when the world has turned its back on you, they are the people who will be around to help pick up the pieces.

Love and Relationships:

I walked away from someone who I thought was the love of my life.  I’ve tried dating, but I have come to the conclusion that I need to make myself whole before I can open my heart up to anyone and it feels good to really get MY life together and focus on what makes THIS girl happy!

Work:

Lost my job and am starting over!  I am starting from a clean slate and am actually tackling the things that I’ve been “dreaming” about…exciting stuff.

Friends:

This one is probably the hardest one to touch upon because simply put, I lost my best friend.  I learned that the people who are closest to you can turn on you.  When you apply heat to anything, you get to see what the foundation consists of and the reality is, anyone who is willing to walk away from me really doesn’t deserve to be in my life.  I refuse to have seasonal friends so all I can say is, keep walking your ass in the other direction because I don’t believe in forcing anyone to ever be in your life.

Overall:

I learned a lot in 2013, but I am really glad it is over.  The chapters have ended and my new book of life is just beginning!

Happy New Year!

Do You Have the Holiday Blues?

I know, I know…there’s a lot of pressure during this time of year.  Some are stressed with buying presents, others are trying to make travel arrangements, some may be preparing their home for out-of-town family/guests.  Then there are those who simply aren’t having the best string of luck.  Aside from the materialistic issues of buying presents (which should never be a source of real stress since it’s the most unimportant part of celebrating the holidays), people are going through some very real sh!t around the world.  Not everyone is excited to ring in the new year or be around a lot of people…hell, some don’t even have anyone to share the holidays with.

Personally, 2013 has been very draining and challenging and I’m not really looking forward to the holiday cheer, but I know that I am blessed to be around my family and REAL friends.  That is the main thing that I am holding onto to help me deal with a rough patch I’m trying to work my way through.

Whatever the case may be, just try to find your own silver lining.  If it’s any consolation, the holidays are almost over!

*Video* Your Future is a Thought of the Now!

My brother sent me this video and I would be selfish if I didn’t share it with my readers.  The reality is, we all worry about things that, in the grand scheme of things, won’t matter down the line.  So much of our focus is spent on not living in the moment; a hard ability to master.  Check out this great video and leave your thoughts!

Holidays Can Be Tough for My Dreamers Out There!

It seems like this year has flown by!  The Holidays are creeping up and we’re right back to shopping, traveling and eating good food.  However, what about the folks who aren’t where they want to be in life?  What if the end of 2013 is just a reminder that you haven’t accomplished all of your goals?  Well, speaking from experience, as someone who hasn’t accomplished everything just yet, I know the feeling.  It’s tough to know that you still have so far to go, but that shouldn’t be a discouragement.

This Holiday, realign yourself and make a list of everything you still have to tackle and maybe set at least one or two new goals for yourself.  Sometimes it’s hard to live in the moment and enjoy the holiday cheer, but try your best because most of your strength, support and drive will be rooted in your family and friends.  Don’t let a timeline determine your level of success, instead just keep trucking along and remain as focused as possible.

So, do me a favor…when you go home for Christmas or Thanksgiving or New Years or whatever you celebrate in your culture, help set the dinner table, help mom or dad cook the food, buy some mistletoe, put some holiday music on, do something to get involved and allow yourself to have some fun.  We all have goals in life and one of them should be to enjoy the precious time that we have with family and friends.

*Video* Thursday Inspiration…Some Lessons Are Tough

Normally, I post the warm and fuzzy inspirational stuff, but life is not always like that.  So, this week I want to share a different lesson…if you are focused on the WRONG things in life, reality will come to bite you in the ass.  Check it out:

Special Post for a Woman Shaping Her Destiny…

We all go through changes in life…

We see friends come, friends go…we go through ups and we go through downs…we cry…we laugh…we have crazy moments…we experience it all!

As crazy at it gets, some people can take a leap of faith so great, that you can’t help but appreciate and look up in amazement.  I met a special gal about 12 years ago while in college.  From the beginning, she had an outgoing spirit and one hell of a side eye (lol)!  We had moments of distance, where months would go by with no contact, but then that one girl’s night out, every once in a while, brought us back together.  As we get older, I’ve grown to appreciate her honesty and her support.  When I think about it and look back at old pics, I realize that she has really been there for a lot.  My lovely and dear friend, Jelonda, will be embarking on a journey that will be life changing.

She has decided to move to Thailand for six months, working on her inner and outer self, taking life as it comes.  Who knows where this leap of faith will lead her, but one thing is for sure, I have an immeasurable amount of respect for her.

To my girl:

Know that we are all watching you and praying for your safe travels.  We love you and want nothing but the best for this new path that you are walking down.  You are an inspiration to everyone around you and even those watching from afar.  Continue to follow your heart and your dreams…I am SO SO proud of you and I know that God will be guiding your every move, so behave and live it up as if no one is watching lol.  Here are some snapshots of great times, so whenever you get homesick just take a peak at the memories!
