Do Ratchet Shows Give the Black Community a Bad Rep?

I’ve always wondered what keeps me glued to the television when shows like Love & Hip Hop come on.  To be honest, the fights make me cringe, the bullying makes my blood boil, the men who dog the ladies out make me roll my eyes…all in all, my blood pressure shoots up.  So, whyyyy do I put myself through it? I’ve figured it out and it’s for a couple of reasons.  The first reason being, it’s comforting to see how I DON’T want to live.  Did that make sense?  Let me break it down a little bit.  When I see the women fighting, I know I don’t want that to be me.  When I see the women dealing with these men who are no good, I see what I want to avoid.  When I see these grown folks unable to speak articulately, it makes me read a book (lol).  The other reason, is simple…it’s entertaining.  Maybe that makes me a hypocrite because the very reasons that make me hate the show, are the same reasons that also keep me watching.

One thing I know for sure, reality television should not be a representation of an entire community!  I see the same ratchet behavior when I watch The Real Housewives of Orange County and Beverly Hills.  There are lessons to be learned by some of the stuff we see, but overall…it’s just TV!

Reagan Gomez’s Web Series “Almost Home”

Remember my interview with the lovely Reagan Gomez back in February?  Well, she kept her promise to fans and began filming her web series, “Almost Home”.  Her goal was to create quality roles for people, especially women, of color and she raised enough money to begin production.  The first three episodes are on YouTube and I must say, I am pleasantly surprised.  Not to mention, the music that is featured is amazing.  She gave me the heads up that all of the music in “Almost Home” will be released via a soundtrack so stay tuned!  Check out the first three episodes:

Don’t call it a comeback (like, seriously…don’t).  I love Cassie’s style, she’s obviously gorgeous, but I’m not 100% sold on this track.  I like it, but I don’t love it yet.  Let me know what you think!

DaniTheDreamGirl Does Photo Shoot for Curvy Doll!

Hello Dreamers!

I’ve been getting requests to give an update about my dreams and what I’m accomplishing and what’s going on in my world.  Well, in addition to turning 30, I’ve been making some moves!  I was asked to do a photo shoot for an awesome boutique in Baltimore, Curvy Doll.  Of course, I jumped at the opportunity.  I got glammed up with make-up, jewelry, clothes, the works!  The photos haven’t been released yet, but below is a short behind the scenes video of the photo shoot.  Enjoy!

Interview: Tatyana Ali on Wendy Williams

So, all of my readers hopefully know by now that I am absolutely in love with Drake!  It pains me to hear Wendy ask Tatyana whether or not she has hooked up with him (yikes!), but it is the only reason why I am posting this on my site (lol).  All Drake every-thang!  This is a cute interview; check out what she says:
