What Women on the Come-Up Can Learn About Beyoncé in GQ!

Sure, it’s easy to see such a beautiful icon, such as Beyoncé, and only see the surface.  If that’s all you can take away from such a power house and success story, I encourage you to dig a little deeper folks.  No matter what mainstream qualms you may have for Beyoncé, one thing you can admit to is that she has built an empire with an unshakable foundation.  Ladies, pay attention!  If you want to learn how to make it in this industry and have the ability to shape your success, take some notes and check out what she has to tell GQ.  She’s more humble than you may think!

While touring, she critiques the show each night by watching the DVD and providing pages of notes to each member of her on-stage staff (dancers, musicians, cameramen, etc.):

“One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete…You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late. I see, ‘Oh God, that hair did not work.’ Or ‘I should never do that again.’ I try to perfect myself. I want to grow, and I’m always eager for new information.”

She speaks on her passion for what she does:

“I love my job, but it’s more than that: I need it,” she says. “Because before I gave birth, it was the only time in my life, all throughout my life, that I was lost…It’s like a blackout. When I’m onstage, I don’t know what the crap happens. I am gone.”

Beyoncé explains how being an independent women in this industry is critical:

“You know, equality is a myth, and for some reason, everyone accepts the fact that women don’t make as much money as men do. I don’t understand that. Why do we have to take a backseat?” she says in her film, which begins with her 2011 decision to sever her business relationship with her father. “I truly believe that women should be financially independent from their men. And let’s face it, money gives men the power to run the show. It gives men the power to define value. They define what’s sexy. And men define what’s feminine. It’s ridiculous.”

What Beyoncé things of her power:

“I now know that, yes, I am powerful…I’m more powerful than my mind can even digest and understand.”

How she describes her journey of success:

“I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want,” she says. “I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.”

EVERY interview that she ever does is recorded and taped for her own personal archive (smart business move, everyone):

And this room—she calls it her “crazy archive”—is a key part of that, she will explain, so, “you know, I can always say, ‘I want that interview I did for GQ,‘ and we can find it.” And indeed, she will be able to find it, because the room in which you are sitting is rigged with a camera and microphone that is capturing not just her every utterance but yours as well. These are the ground rules: Before you get to see Beyoncé, you must first agree to live forever in her archive, too.

I absolutely love this woman and not just because of what’s on the exterior, but because she truly embodies what a role model should be.  As a fellow female trying to pave my own way, there’s so much learn from someone who is so willing to share how she created her success within a male dominated industry.  Check out more photos from her GQ shoot and to read the full article, visit: http://www.gq.com/women/photos/201301/beyonce-cover-story-interview-gq-february-2013?currentPage=1

It’s a big day for music lovers!  Beyonce announced on her site today that Destiny’s Child will be releasing their new album, “Love Songs”.  It’s been about eight years since we’ve heard any new music from the trio and yes, the fans are READY!  If you can’t wait, you can pre-order your copy on Amazon!  I think I’ll be patient enough to wait until it’s in Target, however.

For all of you diehard J.T. fans, you may have been a little disappointed (to say the least) when he Tweeted, “Thursday, January 10th, 2013 at 9:01 am PST…” and come 9:01 am PST, there was no new music awaiting the masses (lol).  So, what exactly did he do?  Well, at 9:01 am PST he Tweeted, To whom it may concern…I think I’M READY! #JT2013″ and included a link to the video below.

Call it what you want, but for all those music dreamers out there, I think it was genius move!  He is beginning to create some buzz around his upcoming project.  Let’s face it, this is Justin Timberlake and he has the clout to make a gutsy move like this!  Enjoy his trailer!

Write About What’s Hot! Or Not? ~Become a Blogger Mondays!

I often struggle with the decision to write about current events on my site because I don’t want it to ever become a gossip site.  I don’t knock gossip sites, but the purpose of Danithedreamgirl.com is to inspire others to follow their dreams.  So, where do current events fit in, in the Dreamworld?  I have asked myself this question at least a hundred times!  The conclusion that I’ve come up with is, they fit in wherever I want them to.  I have to keep reminding myself that this is my site and what I choose to put out there is solely my decision.  However, there is also a healthy balance in being true to the people that follow my blog.  So, here is what I do when I have the urge to say how happy I am about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having a baby (for example):

1. I hone in on why the particular event is important enough for me to write about, i.e. what moves me, what makes it important, how will it encourage my readers.

2. I stay true to myself first and foremost, then I stay true to my readers.

I learned from Angel’s Laws of Blogging that if you don’t have anything to write about, it’s better to not write anything at all!  Basically, I write what I want and I don’t force it.

3.  I do my research.

It’s so important to pay attention to what’s “poppin” out there.  I don’t want my site to become an open journal for the world to see, filled with a ton of things that nobody cares about reading.  Instead, I want it to be a place where people can read about examples of others following their dreams, as well as, highlighting the exciting events taking place around us all.

Find the balance and the rest will fall into place!  Happy Blogging!

It’s that time of year again when we gather up all of the lessons from the last 12 months and reflect on the good and the bad.  As we move into another year, let’s count our blessings and appreciate those who have made it with us.  Enjoy the festivities (wherever you may be) and don’t forget to give thanks!  Thank you for all of the support throughout this past year and I can’t wait to see what 2013 brings.

How Successful is DaniTheDreamgirl?!

I have big dreams, but I realize that I need to start small and work my way up!  I’ve been a blogger for over a year now and I touched on everything I had accomplished back in August, for my 1 year anniversary. Going into 2013 is bittersweet because I haven’t accomplished everything that I wanted to, but as I look back on 2012 I have accomplished SO MUCH.  So, what has changed since my anniversary post back in August?

I’ve conducted 7 more celebrity interviews (including Jay-Z’s nephew, Mel Carter and How to Be a Player star, Mari Morrow).

-I became an official blogger for Yahoo Voices!

-My site traffic has DOUBLED!

-I now have a mentor who is a successful blogger in the D.C. area!

-This is probably the BIGGEST announcement of all…I have made the decision to phase out my WordPress.com blog site and build a brand new site that I have 100% control over.  This will take some time, but in 2013 it will officially happen (fingers crossed).

It’s been a busy year for me, but I’m so blessed to have as much success as I do.  I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I have built a very strong foundation and am looking forward to the new year!  I pray that everyone who is dreaming BIG is seeing success!  For those who are still stuck and don’t know what they want to do in life…that’s OK.  Keep pushing and trying new things and begin to turn even the smallest of dreams into a reality!  Thanks for the support and the love this year; it means the world to me!  2013, here I come!

Rap Beef…How Will This End? Meek Mill vs. Cassidy

If you aren’t aware of the beef between two of Philly’s own hip-hop artists, Meek Mill and Cassidy, well then that just means you found a nice cozy rock to call your home and slid up under it for a long time.  Although beef within the hip-hop world can be a source of entertainment, we all know that it can become serious and no longer about the music.  In my opinion, Meek Mill needs to fall all the way back!  He’s talented, but should be more careful of who he disrespects, especially those who have paved the way for Philly artists to be recognized.  I’ll let you be the judge, but here is Meek Mill’s latest diss track to Cassidy, “Repo” and just to show you how serious it’s getting, here are the photos that he released along with the track (way too far).  I also included Cassidy’s diss track, “Me, Myself & iPhone”.
