A Tribute to George Michael

As a child of the 80’s and 90’s, George Michael is definitely at the top of my list of great artists.  Of course I didn’t know the exact meaning of many of his open-minded lyrics as a little girl, but I knew how to dance and groove to the beat of Faith.  I wasn’t immediately introduced to the solo artist that many of his fans grew to love him as, rather I began falling in love with the 80’s duo, Wham!

My mother had a Wham! video tape that I would watch over and over again and it included hits such as, Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Careless Whisper, Last Christmas, and Everything She Wants.  Who knew that in my 30’s, I’d continue to love the very same songs that I grew up on, but were well beyond my age bracket?

There aren’t many artists that have timeless music which transcends among multiple generations, but anything that George Michael seemed to be a part of, became a classic (at least in my head) and most of the trendy tunes of Wham! are still my ultimate favorites.  Learning of George Michael’s death was  saddening and it was also a realization that he took his talents with him.  2016 has been given the nickname, ‘The Reaper Year’, since so many greats passed away.  Unfortunately, Mr. Michael was added to that list on Christmas Day (how ironic right?).  Every once in a while, there’s an artist that passes away and it hits me harder than the others, i.e. Whitney Houston, and his death has cut me to the core.

So, to all of my Snapchat followers (@danidadreamgirl), sorry (not really) for the recent George Michael tributes I’ve been posting, but I just can’t help myself.  My Last Christmas swooning is only my way of accepting the fact that I will never get to see one of my favorite childhood artists perform live in my lifetime.  Thank you, to the man that continues to speak to the hopeless romantics, sexual creatures, confused in love, fed up, free individuals of the world through long-lasting melodic messages.  You’ll be missed dearly by the little girl who still jams out to you as if she’s at one of your concerts.  For my fellow George Michael lovers, here’s something to sing to before you go-go.
